Substance abuse (Treatment and Rehabilitation Program)
BDATRC (Bhawal Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center), with its treatment and rehabilitation facilities in Gazipur, considers convenience of movements and addresses maximum number of Substance abusers from abuse. The center is addressing clients’ needs for accessing to services and ensuring their feelings of safety with comfort. After treatment, individual is taken under Rehabilitation program. BDATRC adopted evidence-based medical treatment protocol for safe management of acute symptoms of withdrawal syndromes for drugs and substance abusers with related medical, psycho-social, vocational, and legal problems. In addition to counseling or psychotherapy, required medication and services are arranged like family therapy, parenting advice, vocational rehabilitation, and social and legal services. Life skills training provided during treatment and rehabilitation period including communication, coping and other personal skills like decision making, stress and anger management and skills of enhancing self esteeming, decision-making skills etc. Trained counselors and staffs orient cognitive changes including new cognition, negative emotions, coping mechanism with anxiety and fears towards a drug free life.
Tobacco Control Program:
Corresponding body delivers lessons on injurious effects of smoking in every session. Based on this philosophy and idea BDATRC has been advocating the concerned. In recent, BDATRC’s tobacco control program launched in a more organized and constructive way. The program emphasizes on Awareness, Sensitization and Policy advocacy for reducing direct and indirect smoking and tobacco use. BDATRC is implementing various awareness & sensitization activities, networking, initiatives for capacity building and smoke-free environment through making public place 100% smoke-free with the support of related authority and mass population. BDATRC also has the thought of implementing many projects through support of National and International organization. From the beginning, BDATRC has been playing very significant role in policy advocacy & lobbying for tobacco control law and its amendment in national and international levels.
STD/STI Prevention Program:
BDATRC has taken multiple strategies to control and prevent sexually transmitted disease and infections. A vast range of disease like Hepatitis A, B and C (HbS Ag1, HbS Ag2, HbS Ag3) specially transmitted by ID users are under consideration for treatment and prophylaxis. The program includes both treatment and awareness counseling activities. Related organizations like WHO, UN and USAID have already the cooperation with it. The centre initially deals with the affected individual and group and provides necessary treatment support and pretreatment measures. Project work at field level has been under strategic planning. Patient with Lever Cerosis due to severe drug abuse are prior.
HIV/AIDS Prevention Program:
With the emerging challenges for the People who Injects Injective Drugs (ID), BDATRC started HIV prevention program in 2009 as a strong component of BDATRC. From the commencement, BDATRC took and grounded different types of programs including those for awareness and capacity building, SDI/STD services with necessary materials promotion, BDATRC undertook interventions to restrict Needle sharing, abscess management, general health services, health education, family planning and day care services including outreach, counseling etc. BDATRC also an in-country pioneer in IEC/BCC material development and distribution service to marginalized IDs and their partners along with need based interventions, research & advocacy to prevent HIV/AIDS with the support of a number of development partners, for all in general and especially for targeted high risk population.
